Big Comedy Nights goes on the Red Button

The BBC Red Button will be broadcasting BBC Asian Network’s Big Comedy Night all this week.

The event, hosted by BBC Asian Network’s breakfast presenter Tommy Sandhu, showcases “the best of Asian comedy in the UK and beyond”.

Recorded in front of a live audience at the BBC’s Radio Theatre in London last month, BBC Asian Network’s Big Comedy Night saw performances by IISuperwomanII, impressionist Anil Desai, Mawaan Rizwaan and Aditi Mittal.

The programme will also feature performances by rising star Abdullah Afzal (Amjad in Citizen Khan), who made his stand-up debut, and Romesh Ranganathan.

Mark Strippel, Head of Programmes for the Asian Network, says: “BBC Asian Network has developed a genuine platform for progressive British-Asian and South-Asian comic talents in recent years and this Red Button special, filmed at the BBC Radio Theatre, shines a spotlight on some of our rising stars.”

The event also features live music from British-Asian star Navin Kundra and teenage singer and songwriter Iman Orths.

Highlights of all the performances will be available on the BBC Red Button from 10pm on Monday 10 March to Saturday 15 March.
