Luxembourg DJ Mark Wesley visits Caroline as the station joins DAB in Northern Ireland

Former Radio Luxembourg DJ Mark Wesley is joining Radio Caroline’s offshore broadcast team on board the station’s radio ship Ross Revenge this weekend as a guest presenter.

Mark began his radio career in 1965 on Radio Essex and went on to broadcast on Radio 270, Radio Scotland, and Radio Northsea International.

However, Mark is perhaps best known for his time at Radio Luxembourg, where he hosted shows for over a decade from 1971.

During his time with the station he gained a great nighttime audience and etched his name into radio history when he was the first to break the news in Europe of Elvis Presley’s death in August 1977.

Beyond radio, Mark has built a career as a musician, songwriter, record producer, author, and producer/director of commercials, business films, and documentaries.

He joins seasoned offshore DJs Johnny Lewis, Nick Jackson, Peter Philips, Kevin Turner and Ray Clark on the two-day broadcast from the Blackwater Estuary from Saturday 12 to Sunday 13 October.

The monthly weekend broadcast known as a Radio Caroline North is a nostalgic journey through the music and memories of the 60s – 90s.

Radio Caroline is also now broadcasting on DAB in Northern Ireland via the Lagan small-scale multiplex. Sean Og Mac Braoin from Lagan small-scale DAB said: “We are absolutely delighted to be bringing Radio Caroline to the listeners across Greater Belfast. Northern Ireland has a long history of what were at the time pirate radio stations and indeed Radio Caroline was launched from Greenore just across the border, so it’s great that that tradition remains to this day.

“Even if everything is now legal and above board, the spirit of the pirates live on and we know that the people of Greater Belfast will embrace Radio Caroline being available on their airwaves.”
