New football station Rock and Goal Radio to launch

Rock and Goal Radio will launch on 1st June at 7am as a 24/7 digital football and music platform.

It is being led by Drew Fairbrass, who says it has been built around presenter personality, community culture and a desire to move away from traditional sports radio formats.

“We believe football fans deserve something more honest, more authentic, more entertaining and something truly connected to community fan culture,” he said.

The presenter line up includes TV commentators Matt Smith, Clare Tomlinson, Bob Ballard and Raphael Honigstein alongside journalist Tony Evans and Ian Byrne MP, who will host discussions focused on football and music histories.

Former referees Mark Halsey and Keith Hackett will front a show called Back in Black, aimed at discussing officiating and the PGMOL.

In music, The Doctor from The Medics, Peter Hooton of The Farm, Geoff Deane associated with Kinky Boots and Modern Romance, and Paolo Hewitt will contribute programmes exploring terrace culture, fashion and music history.

Rock and Goal Radio will also work with Fans Supporting Foodbanks and the wider Right to Food movement, promoting awareness of food poverty and linking donations to subscription income.

“I’m extremely proud of what Fans Supporting Foodbanks has done with regards to reinventing people’s perception of a football fan,” said Ian Byrne MP.

The station will be available through dedicated mobile apps, web streaming, smart speakers, YouTube live broadcasts and Patreon powered subscription channels.

It will also launch more than 40 club focused Fan Community Radio channels with creator led programming, podcasts and on demand content.

The network says it will continue expanding creator partnerships and developing long form audio and video content.
