More wake up to Terry Wogan

Terry Wogan wins the battle at breakfast while Radio 3 celebrates its biggest audience in two years. Radio 3’s audience – Sony Station of the Year – has passed the two million mark.

Though Chris Moyles was threatening to edge the veteran broadcaster in the last RAJARs, latest figures show Wogan attracting 7.93 million (up from 7.77 million) to Moyles’ 7.72 million.
Radio 3 celebrated a total of 2.02 million people tuning in each week during the last quarter, garnering the station its biggest audience for more then two years.
Tim Davie, the director of BBC Audio and Music, said: "Radio 3 is a unique radio station with an unrivalled role in supporting music and the arts in the UK.
"I am delighted to see it follow its Sony Award with a strong performance that illustrates the public's enduring appetite for distinctive, high quality broadcasting."
BBC Radio had more to celebrate with the latest figures showing an audience at an all time high with 46.3 million people – 90.3 per cent of the population – tuning if for at least five minutes across the week.
Radio 4 broke the 10 million mark, picking up around 465,000 new listeners in the past year, while Radio 1 added 660,000 listeners in the same period – its audience now stands at 11.34 million.
Radio 2 saw a slight fall in listeners from 13.46 million last quarter to 13.42 million, while Radio 5 Live and its digital sister station 5 Live Sports Extra had a combined weekly audience of 6.52 million.
In digital-only services, 1Xtra’s reach is up nearly 150,000 on the year to 634,000, BBC 6 Music has 595,000 listeners, BBC Radio 7 is slightly down on last quarter with 834,000 listeners and the BBC Asian Network is slightly up on the quarter with 421,000 listeners.
Finally, the BBC World Service has seen its weekly reach climb to 1.44 million from 1.31m this time last year.
