Downtown Radio boat sinks

Three Downtown Radio presenters had to be rescued by lifeboat crews after their yacht hit rocks during an outside broadcast.

Presenters Johnny Hero, Dougi Marshall and Robert Skates were raising money for the station's charity Cash for Kids.

Mark Mahaffy, Managing Director of Downtown Radio, speaking the day after the event said: “Downtown Radio would like to extend its gratitude to the rescue services for their assistance in ensuring our three presenters and the professional crew of the Ocean Youth Trust vessel were brought safely ashore after [last night’s] yachting accident.

“The Lord Rank was being used to promote a joint fundraising campaign for Downtown Radio’s Cash for Kids and Ocean Youth Trust. We would like to assure all listeners that the fundraising campaign will continue and that tonight’s events in Portrush and Newcastle will go ahead as planned, despite the loss of this vessel."

The yacht sank just hours later, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
