Folded Wing creates new Jamie Cullum for in-flight programmes

A new series of Taking Off with Jamie Cullum will launch in June created by radio audio indie Folded Wing.

Folded Wing has been working with the broadcaster and musician making his BBC Radio 2 show since it began in 2010.

And the quarterly, hour-long show will celebrate fresh jazz and jazz-leaning emerging artists available on six airlines; British Airways, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, and Qatar Airways.

It is made in collaboration with global media and entertainment agency Spafax.

Folded Wing also makes Selector Radio for the British Council, broadcasting to an audience of three million across 40 countries. The company has previously made shows for airlines, including Brasil Music Exchange which was made in partnership with Brasil Musica e Artes and formed part of BA’s inflight entertainment.

“The show is an absolute reflection of what Folded Wing stands for,” says CEO and founder Karen P.

“It’s a platform for new music and new artists, showcasing them to the world. It’s great to be bringing Jamie’s amazing broadcasting and selection to a whole new audience.”

The bespoke sound design for the shows reflects the show’s international intentions and has been made by Sam Duckworth aka Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, using sounds from the Estuary 21 project with Dele Sosimi.

“Jamie Cullum is a trailblazer for discovering global jazz-inspired music and we are excited, proud and delighted that he is joining our roster of audio in-flight entertainment presenters,” says Philippa Starns, Audio Manager UK at Spafax.

“His warm, friendly, cheerful presentation style is pleasant and welcoming, and his passion, knowledge and genuine love of all things jazz is inspiring.

We’re thrilled that international passengers flying all over the world will now have the chance to either discover him, or welcome his voice like an old friend, onboard their flights.”
