Bells are ringing at BBC Notts

BBC Radio Nottingham is hoping to start a new trend on St Georges Day, after encouraging listeners to join in with a simultaneous bell ringing session last week.

Breakfast presenter Andy Whittaker is behind the idea, after a listener contacted the show to say how disappointed he was that St Georges Day wasn't being marked properly in Nottinghamshire.
"My solution to this was to try and unite everyone listening to the show in some kind of celebration and bells seemed an obvious choice," Andy told RadioToday.co.uk.
"We encouraged churches, pubs, people at home and even bus drivers to ring their bells at exactly 8.15am – I did a countdown so it all happened at the same time. I was staggered by the response – there was a real will to be part of something big for St George's Day and people went to all kinds of lengths to get hold of bells to ring."
Churches, pubs, schools and even cow bells rang out at the same time.
