After winning Station of the Year and Best Breakfast at the Sonys, Bauer’s Kiss has pushed Heart to 4th place in the competitive London commercial radio market.

And Kiss is now just 24,000 listeners behind second place Magic, and 230,000 behind Capital as the top commercial station.

Year on Year Capital has increased 4.1%, Magic has dropped 1.8%, Heart has dropped 8% and Kiss has increased by 7.5%. In numbers terms, Capital has 2.2m, Magic has 1.963m, Kiss has 1.958 and Heart has 1.939m listeners.

In 5th place, LBC, which has been climbing towards the 1m listener mark over the last few years has dropped this quarter down to 867,000 listeners. The biggest increase year-on-year is for Choice, up 36.4% whilst the biggest drop goes to XFM, down 32.3% from 604,000 listeners a year ago to 409,000 today.

Dee Ford, group managing director radio, Bauer Media, said: “I am particularly pleased that Magic 105.4, Kiss, heat and The Hits have seen such tremendous growth in hours listened, demonstrating that carefully crafted content creates better engagement for our listeners. A special mention must go to the record-breaking RAJAR results for Kiss, which caps a great week for the station after winning two Golds at the Sony Awards.”

I am glad Heart is losing listeners – it is bland and actually has LESS music variety. Simon Bates is very good on Smooth. At least Kiss and Choice are offering something a bit different. Personally I remain a fan of LBC which is still in 5th place in London.
