Brits in Australia help make Nova number 1

Nova in Australia is enjoying its position as the number one metro network in the country, currently run by a number of former UK radio execs.

Nova-owner dmg is home to ex-GCap programmer Paul Jackson (now Group PD), ex-Galaxy PD Mike Cass, ex-Real Radio/Wave 105 PD Dave Shearer, and just yesterday former Southern FM Programme Controller Tony Aldridge was appointed Assistant Programme Director for Nova 96.9 in Sydney.

Nova 96.9 PD Brendan Taylor told RadioToday Australia: “I’m thrilled to have Tony join the Nova Sydney team. His passion and experience are the perfect addition to the Sydney team.”

Tony said: “To receive the call to come to the best city in the world and work with the team at Nova and spend my days with Fitzy and Wippa – who could resist. These guys are a phenomenal talent, have an unbelievable passion and the messed up creativity to win – and that they will.”

Even the jingles have been made by London-based On The Sly Productions, headed by Chris Thorpe: “We loved working with the team at DMG to deliver a contemporary new sound, modeled on the fresh hits Nova plays. We did what On The Sly do best – blurring the lines between imaging and music branding. It’ll really enhance the network’s legendary sound,” Chris told RadioToday.co.uk.

On the audio, dmg Radio Australia’s Group Production Director, Matt Dower said: “On The Sly took our brief, made it their own and the results are outstanding. It’s a great time to give Nova’s musical branding a refresh and keep us right up leading the pack.”

Nova broadcasts Fresh Hits to Sydney (Nova 96.9), Melbourne (Nova 100), Brisbane (Nova 106.9), Adelaide (Nova 919) and Perth (Nova 937), and is owned by dmg Radio Australia.
