Radio 3 changes breakfast show presenter

BBC Radio 3’s weekend breakfast presenter Clemency Burton-Hill is taking over from Sara Mohr-Pietsch on weekday breakfast.

Presenter and musician Clemency Burton-Hill will start her first show on December 2nd and will alternate the morning shifts with Petroc Trelawny.

Clemency fronted BBC Young Musician, the BBC Proms and Radio 3’s New Generation Artists Scheme since 2011, as well as making regular appearances on BBC Two’s The Culture Show, BBC Four’s The Review Show. She is also the classical curator of BBC Four’s Modern Classical Archive.

“I have loved every minute of presenting Radio 3’s weekend breakfast for the past two years, and it is such a tremendous honour to join our national classical breakfast show,” Clemency said. “I’m a great believer in starting the day with a taste of classical music and I hope the works I’ll be playing will set the tone for an inspiring and stimulating day. I can’t wait to bring my passion and my own everyday musical discoveries to our Radio 3 breakfast audience, who never fail to amaze with their own curiosity and engagement with these magnificent works.”

Sara, who has been on the show for seven years, will leave the morning programme in order to be the new voice of The Choir each Sunday and to lead BBC Radio 3’s live from Wigmore Hall lunchtime concerts on a Monday.

Speaking about her move, Sara Mohr-Pietsch commented: “It’s been a pleasure to be the voice that Radio 3’s listeners wake up to for the past seven years. The warmth and intelligence of our community of listeners has made Breakfast a joy to present, and I was hugely proud of our Sony nomination last year.

“But after all those early mornings, I’ve decided I’m finally ready for a lie-in and a new challenge! I’m incredibly excited to be working across two distinctive strands in the Radio 3 schedule: The Choir, and Wigmore Hall live lunchtimes, featuring the world’s finest chamber musicians. I’m also passionate about choral music, having studied and sung it myself, and it’s been fascinating coming up with ideas for The Choir.”

Sara’s last breakfast show is Friday 15th November, and she will begin presenting live from Wigmore Hall from Monday 2nd December. Sara will present The Choir from Sunday 5th January 2014, and plans include regular live programmes every month.

Breakfast on Radio 3 is operated on a sharing shift system, with two presenters working alternative weeks.
