The launch of Virgin Radio today marked the final station to launch on the second UK commercial DAB multiplex.
18 stations are now live, including Share Radio, Magic Chilled, Kisstory, UCB2 and Jazz FM.
Virgin launched at 11am from a train on its way from Manchester to London, stopping at Crewe, Birmingham New Street and Rugby for some live music performances.
It’ll cover over 70% of the UK but exclude most of Wales, Scotland, the South West of England and East Anglia. And like 15 of the 18 stations on the brand new multiplex, it’ll broadcast in mono.
Sound Digital was awarded a licence last year from Ofcom to extend the capacity available for national DAB radio stations.
