Changes at BBC Five Live

BBC Radio Five Live is gearing up for the 2006 Formula One season – there will be extended live coverage throughout the season brought to listeners by a brand new commentary team.

David Croft heads up the team who will provide live commentary on every single race, starting in Bahrain on Sunday 12 March.

Maurice Hamilton is the main summariser and will give his expert analysis and insights on proceedings as well as getting top name interviews.

In addition, the team will be joined by a guest summariser from the world of Formula One at each Grand Prix.

The team will be joined in the commentary box this week by former Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert.

Legendary motor sport commentator Murray Walker has also signed up to contribute special features and interviews across the season.

This week he provides a team-by-team preview to the new season for Five Live Formula One, the weekly F1 show.

Every Friday night there will be the latest F1 news with previews of forthcoming races, driver profiles, a guide to the Grand Prix venue and other special features.

Another new face this year is Holly Samos who will be live in the pit lane and paddock at each Grand Prix providing listeners with the latest driver news and gossip.

Holly will also provide a race diary on bbc.co.uk/fivelive with a round up of the weekend’s news from behind the scenes.

As well as being able to listen to the race commentary online, bbc.co.uk/fivelive has a download after every race called The Chequered Flag.

The half hour programme, also available as a podcast, will be presented by David Croft with full analysis from the race.

In a new move for Five Live, there will be commentary on the three practice sessions along with Saturday qualifying from each circuit. These will be available on either Five Live or Five Live Sports Extra and are also available online.
