Rother FM delighted at award

Rother FM is to be the permanent radio station for Rotherham and the surrounding area and is aiming to launch in October 2006.

Radio regulator Ofcom yesterday awarded the licence to Rother FM after reviewing all three applications it received from organisations wanting to run Rotherham?s commercial radio station.

Rother FM, owned by the Lincs FM Group, will be ?a truly local radio station for Rotherham with a high quality news and information service that puts Rotherham first, and a popular and distinctive blend of music – a station designed to appeal to adults and children alike? said Ofcom on its website.

?We?re delighted and honoured to be given the opportunity to provide Rotherham with its very own radio station,? said Michael Betton, Rother FM?s Chairman and Chief Executive. ?We want to create a radio station that Rotherham people turn to first for great music, entertainment, information and news. It is all hands to the pump now as we start the exciting prospect of bringing Rother FM to life.?

Rother FM is best remembered for its successful test broadcast in May last year, highlights of which can be heard online at www.rotherfm.co.uk. Visitors to the website can also download a copy of the station?s application which details how Rother FM will be set up, what it will sound like and how it will add value to the community.
