talkSPORT scores with footy

UTV Radio-owned national station talkSPORT's scored its highest ratings of the year.

The station's new weekly 2.3 million reach is up 8.4% compared with the same quarter last year – and even 2% higher than Q2/06 when the World Cup was on.

Listening hours were up to 18.7million – also a 2006 record for the all-speech broadcaster.

talkSPORT say their audience profile is still attractive to national advertisers, with 78% of them male, and just over half from the ABC1 bracket.

Scott Taunton, Chief Executive of UTV Radio and talkSPORT, says: “This is a great achievement for talkSPORT post-World Cup and provides us with a solid base on which to build through the football season. It also augurs well for next season, when we become the first national commercial radio station in history to broadcast live and exclusive Premiership football commentary on Saturday afternoons.

“The station is going from strength to strength, successfully carving out a bigger slice of the market.”
