New board member at Ofcom

Chris Banatvala has joined the Ofcom Content Board. Chris will sit as a full member of both Ofcom’s Content Sanctions Committee and its Fairness Committee, responsible for the implementation and policy development of standards regulation in broadcasting.

Chris was responsible for the development of Ofcom's first Broadcasting Code, which sets standards for television and radio broadcasts. Chris was formally a journalist on Channel 4 News, before joining the Independent Television Commission where he was Head of Factual Programmes.

Philip Graf, Chairman of the Content Board and Deputy Chairman of Ofcom, said: “I am delighted that Chris will be joining the Content Board”.

He added: “Chris brings a wealth of broadcast experience in the area of audience protection; including harm and offence, accuracy and impartiality, fairness and privacy.”
