OBE for Capital Radio founder

Robert Stiby, one of the founders of Capital Radio in 1973, has been awarded the OBE for services to broadcasting in the Queen's New Year Honours. He retired last year and was most recently Chairman of Tindle Radio.

Mr Stiby had previously established Radio Investments, the original firm behind Capital. In later years he was a non-executive director at Talk Radio and headed RIL-subsidiary The Local Radio Company in its previous guise between 1996 and 1999.

Throughout his career Mr Stiby established a reputation for founding and successfully running more than 30 commercial radio stations.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to radio, he was elected a Fellow of the Radio Academy in 2001.

On his retirement from Tindle Radio in March 2006, Mr Stiby told the Press Gazette: "I have been in the media business for nearly 50 years. I have loved working in commercial radio. It is addictive."
