Kendal station does marathon to raise funds

A 50-hour marathon broadcast raised over two thousand pounds to help keep Kendal’s hospital radio station in operation.

The broadcast was held to mark the station’s 36th anniversary and boost funds to help with running costs.

Live entertain from singers Megan Forrest, Amy Jo Clough, Sam Davidson and the band Nether kept the listeners entertained.

Presenters from Bay Trust Radio got businesses to support the event and collected pledges from in and outside of the hospitals.

John Williamson, president of Bay Trust Radio, told RadioToday: “Thanks to everyone who donated money during our fundraiser. As we receive no funding, this will go towards the running costs of the station and helps secure our future.

“Our 36th birthday was a great opportunity to shout about what we do and as a result, we’ve met various people who are keen to get involved.”

Hospital radio began in Kendal in February 1977 with live broadcasts to the Westmorland County Hospital. It broadened out in 2008 when the trust board ask them to broadcast to all of the Morecambe Bay Hospitals.

Bay Trust Radio covers Westmorland General hospital, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary & the Furness General hospital.
