KCBC / Connect FM celebrates 25 years on air
Connect FM has a new look and a new sound to celebrate its silver anniversary this year.
Connect FM launched as KCBC on 1530 AM and the original daytime line-up consisted of the late Howard Rose at breakfast time, followed by Tony Harrison, Terry Doyle, Mark Jeeves and Andy Jackson. It switched to FM in 1998 and was merged with Corby’s Connect FM a year later.
The new logo is now in use and the station’s new jingles are created by Ignite Jingles, with additional sweepers and production by Devaweb.
The only person to have bee with the station for the full 25 years is Carlo Fiorentino, who joined when the station launched in 1990. Murray J – who presents the Workday Wind Down each weekday evening 7-11pm – is also one of the longest serving presenters having joined 24 years ago.
The station’s Managing Director Mark Jeeves – whose first ever radio job was as the evening show DJ on the 1st day of the station broadcasting – believes the secret Connect FM’s longevity and success is Today’s Best Mix. He says “It is our promise to you that Connect FM will have the widest variety and play list of any music station you can hear in the area, along with the best local news, the most up to date travel information news and a wide range of community information. Every single hour of each day is created with Northants in mind – with presenters who really know and are passionate about where they live. That is why we’ve lasted so long – here’s to the next 25 years!”
