Alex Dyke back in the national newspapers

BBC Radio Solent presenter Alex Dyke is back in the national newspapers, but for all the right reasons this time.

An article on BuzzFeed yesterday reported how he invited a lonely pensioner called Bill on to his show, sending a cab to bring him to the station in Southampton.

“He called up to say he was lonely and he missed [his wife],” producer Chris Hitchings told BuzzFeed News. “I don’t think he had anyone else to talk to.”

The 95 year old visits his wife every day in to hospital after she was taken ill. Alex gave Bill a hug after he arrived at the station, and then chatted to him live in the studio during the same show.

The story received a great response in the industry, and is featured in a number of newspapers today.

The last time Alex hit the headlines was for his comments about breastfeeding in public, in which he was suspended for a week.
