Signal 1 & Signal 2 raise £60,000 for charity

Signal 1 and Signal 2 joined forces for Bring a Pound day to help raise over £60,000 for the Douglas MacMillan Hospice in North Staffordshire.

The station changed the regular programming and aired heartfelt messages from patients, families and friends who are living with life-limiting illness. This year, there was a 12-hour auction which gave listeners the chance to bid for deals like a signed guitar, a Stoke City experience and a wedding.

Messages from people who use the hospice were mixed with live broadcasts from various schools and businesses who took part in the fancy dress theme of pirates and made collections for the charity.

Senior Programme Controller for Signal, Chris Buckley told RadioToday: “We were inundated with listeners calling live on air with their own personal messages and stories, and we’re overjoyed with the generosity of our listeners. It really shows that Signal Radio is a strong voice in the community and is clearly proud to be local.”
