Jo Russell returns to the Great East Midlands

Free Radio Wolverhampton breakfast show team Jo and Sparky are joining Gem 106 for a weekend show.

They’ll be taking over Saturday mornings from January in the East Midlands, in addition to their daily show in the West Midlands.

Jo Russell has history in the region with her long stint on breakfast at Trent FM, and says she can’t wait to get back to the area. “We’ve been doing the show together in the West Midlands for the last 5 years, and can’t wait to get cracking in the Great East Midlands too. Thanks for having us, and if anyone can put us up on a Friday night we’ll make sure to bring a bottle!”

Gem is also launching a “Weekend Anthems” show in 2016, hosted by Kam Kelly every Friday and Saturday evenings. Cat James follows, returning to her home town of Nottingham to ‘wind down’ the East Midlands.

Another East Midlands local girl starting some new key weekend shows is Jennie Longdon, fresh from co-hosting the breakfast show on Free Radio.

Programme Director, James Brownlow, says: “Jo Russell is an exceptional radio presenter and along with the exciting talent that is Sparky their show will be one that the East Midlands quickly falls in love with”.

“Alongside Kam Kelly, Cat James and up and coming stars like Jennie Longdon, all playing music that absolutely captures and enhances the mood of our audience like no other station in the UK, Gem, the home of the award-winning Sam & Amy, is a must listen for the East Midlands.”

All new schedule changes will air in 2016.
