Former Real Radio Wales boss joins Nation

Nation Broadcasting, which operates seven commercial radio stations in Wales, has hired Tony Dowling as Group Development Director.

Tony spent many years as Managing Director of GMG Radio’s Real Radio, before leaving in 2012 to join South West Wales Media, which publishes the South Wales Evening Post.

Most recently he was Managing Director of Team Rock, which went into administration just before Christmas.

Tony was at Real Radio South Wales for more than a decade, first as Sales Manager then Sales Director and Managing Director. He had joined GMG Radio from The Wave and Swansea Sound.

Nation says his new role, which he takes up immediately, will see him deliver “training and strategic advice” across the group’s commercial radio stations and growing digital media business.

Group Managing Director of Nation Broadcasting, Martin Mumford, told RadioToday: “We’ve seen a massive growth in our business over the past couple of years with the launch of our digital media team and new digital radio services across Wales and in London. I’m looking forward to working with Tony as we ‘fast-forward’ the training and development of our commercial teams and products across Wales.”

Tony Dowling said: “I’m really excited to be back home in Wales, back home in commercial radio, and working with the most innovative and ambitious media organisation in the country today. Our aim is to see Nation Broadcasting go even further, even faster and cement a place as the biggest media business in Wales in terms of reach and revenues. I’m very much looking forward to being a part of that with the brilliant team already in place.”
