Rick Simmonds named new MD of Wessex FM
UKRD has appointed former Group Programme Director of The Breeze, Rick Simmonds, as its new Managing Director for Wessex FM based in Dorchester.
Rick will take up the position in early March, replacing Steve Bulley who left last autumn.
He joins UKRD after three years with Celador running The Breeze network of stations across the south. Before that he had been Deputy Programme Director of Heart London and Network Manager for Heart.
Rick began his radio career in Dorset as a presenter on 2CR in 1991 after studying at Weymouth College. He has also worked at stations including Classic FM, Fox FM, Southern FM, Invicta, Ten-17 and Wyvern FM.
He told RadioToday: “It’s going to be great to get back into true local radio and I can’t wait to get started, meet the team and work with them to take the station on to even bigger and better things. Wessex FM has a terrific audience, one of the top three reach stations in mainland England, is commercially strong and is firmly embedded into the local community it serves. My job will be to take those achievements and build further upon them.”
William Rogers, UKRD’s Chief Executive, said Rick’s role would be to build the station into an even more successful and impressive media player in the market. “Rick is going to bring huge experience, a great degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to developing the people in his team and I’ve no doubt that Wessex FM will see even greater success under his leadership,” he said.
