Doing the DAB event planned for Birmingham

Digital Radio UK, together with the Radio Academy Midlands and RadioToday, are to hold a digital radio event in Birmingham on Wednesday 3rd May.

Doing The DAB: Birmingham follows local digital radio events in Manchester and Glasgow and will celebrate the strength of digital radio in Birmingham where digital listening at 45.6% and DAB ownership at 64% are ahead of the national average.

The event will be hosted by Radio Academy Midlands’ Chair, Gareth Roberts, and speakers will be drawn from the BBC, commercial radio and community radio including BBC West Midlands, Free Radio Birmingham, BBC Asian Network, Birmingham’s DAB mini-mux and Digital Radio UK.

Speakers will provide updates on the 70 stations on DAB in Birmingham, the launch of 33 new national and local stations in the last eighteen months, the fourteen DAB stations on the Birmingham mini-mux, and progress on Bauer’s digital strategy and Free Radio Birmingham.

The event runs from 6 – 8pm on Wednesday 3 May at the Hotel La Tour.

Gareth Roberts, Chair of Radio Academy Birmingham, said: “The Radio Academy Midlands are pleased to be hosting this special digital radio event in Birmingham on 3 May. Birmingham is one of the most dynamic radio markets in the UK and there is a great story to tell about the expansion of digital radio choice in the area and the growth of digital listening. We are planning a strong line–up of local speakers and think it’s going to be a great evening.”

Ford Ennals, CEO, Digital Radio UK, said: “We are delighted to be heading to the great radio city of Birmingham to talk to broadcasters from the BBC, commercial radio and community radio to hear about the secret of the success of digital radio in the area. Following the success of Doing the DAB in Manchester and Glasgow, it’s great to be collaborating again with the Radio Academy and we look forward to announcing the final speaker line-up in the coming weeks.”
