Radio 1 Big Weekend tickets go in 50 minutes

Fifty thousand free tickets to BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull next month have been snapped up in under an hour, after being released during this morning’s Breakfast Show.

The event takes place at Burton Constable Hall on 27th and 28th May, with performances from artists including Katy Perry, Little Mix, Kings of Leon and Stormzy.

95 percent of tickets have been given to people from the local area – 70 percent went to people in the Hull or East Riding council areas, and 25 percent to residents with a York, Doncaster or Lincoln postcode.

The tickets were made available at 9.10am today, and were all gone by 10 o’clock.

The 14th Radio 1 Big Weekend is taking place in Hull to coincide with the UK City of Culture celebrations for 2017. The station’s also hosting events to inspire teenagers to take the next step in creative careers, in partnership with BBC Learning.
