Film spectacular planned for Classic FM’s 25th

Classic FM is celebrating 25 years on-air with a special concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London dedicated to film music.

Classic FM Live will take place on Tuesday 19th September at 7.30pm and feature performances from classical pianist Ji Liu and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. It will be recorded for broadcast on Wednesday 20th September at 8pm on Classic FM.

The programme for Classic FM Live includes music from Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore, Gone with the Wind, The Magnificent Seven, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mission, John Barry’s Out of Africa and Dances with Wolves, plus a special performance by Ji Liu of the Warsaw Concerto from the film Dangerous Moonlight.

The evening will also feature music written by film composer John Williams, including Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Superman, Schindler’s List and Star Wars. In his 85th birthday year, Williams has been voted the most popular living composer in the 2017 Classic FM Hall of Fame.

Sam Jackson, Classic FM’s managing editor, said: “From the moment that Classic FM burst onto the airwaves in 1992, our mission has been to make classical music relevant and accessible to all. What better way to celebrate 25 years of bringing the world’s greatest music to millions of people than by joining with our listeners for a spectacular concert packed with the biggest and best movie themes.”

Well done to Classic FM, I have been listening to CFM since it began 25 years ago, to think that it nearly never happened, there was another station at the time who won the franchise but could not get started for financial reasons, so CFM got the franchise and we have been enjoying all that beautiful music ever since, congratulations to them
