Radio stays up all night for election coverage

Coverage of the election will be available on a number of radio stations across the UK all night on June 8th, including 5 live and LBC.

You can also hear local and national coverage on local radio stations across the UK too.

Here’s our guide to who’s doing what so you don’t miss a minute of the action.

BBC Radio 5 live

The UK’s all news and sports station will be live, as usual, all night. Election All Nighter will be hosted by Stephen Nolan in Salford and Emma Barnett in London, who will be joined by political bloggers and commentators as the results roll in through the night from 9.55pm.

BBC Radio 4

BBC Radio 4 is live in the studio all night with Election 2017, followed by a special edition of Today at 6am.

BBC Local Radio

Every BBC local radio station will be broadcasting locally all night with reporters around each region providing live updates back to the studio. Regional programmes will be offered on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Ulster.

LBC

Britain Decides with Iain Dale & Shelagh Fogarty will be on-air from 10pm till 5am, as part of a 12 hour special before Nick Ferrari appears for an early breakfast show live from Westminster. After 10am, James O’Brien gives his verdict and opens the lines to the nation to have their say. Contributors include Nigel Farage, Michael Gove, Emily Thornberry and Alex Salmond. The programme will also be broadcast on Facebook Live.

News Radio UK

If you just want to dip in for the latest updates throughout the night, digital station NewsRadioUK is offering a rolling 10 minute service, updated live throughout the night from 10pm till 6am. This service will also appear on a number of local radio stations and is available to rebroadcast for free.

talkRADIO

On talkRADIO, Julia Hartley-Brewer will host the 10pm till 1am show before handing over to the Two Mikes for an overnight election special with talkSPORT. From 6am, Paul Ross will be live from College Green.

Local and other Commercial Radio

All local radio stations in the Bauer City Network 1 will be taking a networked show with updates from 27 reporters around the country. Bauer City 2 stations will also get a live show. Gavin Pearson and John Collins will be the hosts. National stations including Absolute Radio and Magic will have their own in-house bulletins through the night. Jazz FM is offering a “Guaranteed election swing” with Jamie Crick who will be on-air with the station’s Election Swing-to-Thon.

Update: Lincs FM Group stations are reporting live all night, hosted by Michael Betton and Sean Dunderdale. 2BR is up all night with reports at the Lancashire counts. Castledown FM and Spark Sunderland are also providing live updates.

In addition, Journalism students from across the UK are joining together for the first time as part of a network overnight General Election results programme on radio, online and social media. More than 40 students studying to be journalists will be at constituency counts reporting live for the Vote 2017 programme which will be broadcast on community radio stations and live streamed on the web.

The collaboration between 13 Universities is being overseen by the BJTC – the industry body which accredits multiplatform Journalism courses in the UK supported by the BBC, ITV, Sky News, Channel 4, ITN, Associated Press and Reuters. The programme can be heard from 10pm on June 8th and will be broadcast across the UK from the University of Bedfordshire.

    Community station Spark will be doing live coverage from 10pm-10am with analysis and results as they come in from all across the UK and with broadcasters at counts across Wearside.     Black Country Radio will be live from 10pm to 10am too – with a team i the studio and a team at our 4 local counts providing live and pre-rec content, interviews and debates as well as keeping the area updated on the results as they come in from the region and the wider UK.

    Internet station Triple M in Morecambe will be providing extended bulletins every hour plus extra half-hour headlines at off peak times via its world news provider, FSN. Main reporter will be Olly Barratt.
