Fellowship for Radio Wave founder John Barnett

Myerscough College has awarded its latest Honorary Fellowships to Radio Wave founder John Barnett MBE DL and his wife Danielle.

John was the first voice on the station as MD on May 25th 1992, and is still actively involved in the station today in the role of Chairman. He’s survived a number of management changes, with the station now being owned by Wireless Group.

He was also Chair of UTV’s Preston application Proud FM, which the company won but sold within 18 months of launching it as Central Radio.

In 2000, John was awarded an MBE for services to radio and then later in 2007 appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire. He’s just finished a year of service as the High Sheriff of Lancashire. John & Danielle Barnett have accepted the highest honour that the College can bestow and have now been inducted into the College’s group of inspirational people and join a club that contains names from the world of business, sport and entertainment.

“It’s an unbelievable honour and we’re immensely proud to take a Fellowship,” John and Danielle commented.
