Scott Mills to host Audio Radio Industry Awards
BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills will host the 2017 UK Audio and Radio Industry Awards in Leeds.
The event is happening for the second year running at the First Direct Arena on Thursday October 19th, and will be free to attend for Radio Academy members.
The nominations for this year’s awards will be unveiled on September 18th by Virgin Radio presenters Kate Lawler and Matt Richardson, via a streamed video, to be broadcast at midday from the Next Radio conference in London. The stream will also be available to view as live at facebook.com/radioacademy plus on twitter @radioacademy.
The awards, organised by The Radio Academy, saw its entry bag almost double this year with an expanded 23 awards up for grabs.
Arqiva, who have come on board as an event partner this year, is also sponsoring two of the new categories, ‘Best New Presenter’ and ‘Best New Show/Podcast’. These awards have been added to the line-up to recognise the rising stars in the radio and audio industry.
Scott Mills commented: “What an honour to be asked to host this year’s ARIAS. I can’t wait to help celebrate with you the great output and content from across the audio and radio industries.”
Tickets to attend the ARIAS, together with the after-show party and welcome drinks reception are free to all Radio Academy members.
Tickets for Radio Academy members will be released from September 1st, with The Radio Academy still accepting new membership applications via its website.
Roger Cutsforth, Chief Executive of The Radio Academy said: “We received a great response from the industry, with our entries almost doubling from last year. We have broadened the scope and appeal of the awards this year, reaching out to talent across the audio sector, ensuring that craft and innovation across the board is recognised. I’m also delighted to be partnering with LeedsBID and the First Direct Arena in Leeds once more for what promises to be another cracking night.”
Phil Riley, former Chair & CEO of Orion Media, will consider 21 of the entries with a further two categories voted for by Radio Academy members.
