Original 106’s Kiss the Car competition gave 21 listeners the chance to win a new Suzuki and ended up giving away two of them.
Michelle Cassie of Newmachar and Aberdonian Gary McDonald each won a brand new Suzuki, after a deadlock in the station’s latest competition final at the C & M McDonald Suzuki, of Kintore dealership.
Only 35 minutes short of kissing a Suzuki Ignis for an entire day, the finalists had waived away rights to comfort breaks – making for an uncomfortable night. They managed to kiss the car for 23 hours and 25 minutes.
Both winners nearly collapsed after the huge effort, as they stepped away from the prize car on a joint count of three.
Michelle said: “I’m so happy. It’s absolutely fantastic.
“I hit a point about an hour and a half in where I thought ‘I’m not going to be able to do this, but I grit my teeth and got through.”
Joint-winner Gary added: “It took me to the very last day of the competition to get into the final.
“I’m completely shattered – it is so much harder than it looks!”
For weeks ahead of the final on Thursday, listeners had tried for a spot, calling in to guess the missing word from celebrity quotes played on-air.
Martin Ingram, programme controller of Original 106 said: “We are delighted to have been instrumental in getting TWO of our loyal North East listeners a brand new car.
“It’s certainly more than we hoped and dreamed to have found such deserving winners in Michelle and Gary – who showed such determination that we couldn’t only let one of them leave a winner.
“We’ve had great fun with this fantastic competition that’s been met with real enthusiasm by our listeners.”
