New hosts for Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday
Rev. Kate Bottley and Jason Mohammed will present a revamped and refreshed Good Morning Sunday show on BBC Radio 2 from 6-9am, from Sunday 4th February.
The new programme replaces two separate programmes – The Sunday Hour (6-7am) which was hosted by Kate Bottley, and Good Morning Sunday (7am-9am), which was hosted by Clare Balding. Clare announced her departure from the show last month.
The show will feature religious as well as ethical and spiritual issues, discussion, guest interviews and music. The show will interview a range of figures from the faith world, and continue to mark key religious dates including Christmas, Eid, Easter, Yom Kippur, Diwali and Ramadan.
Lewis Carnie, Head of Radio 2 says: “Kate and Jason are two extremely warm and talented presenters and I’m delighted to welcome them both to this exciting new Good Morning Sunday format on Radio 2, where I’m confident that they will ease the Radio 2 audience into their Sunday mornings.”
Originally from Sheffield, Rev. Kate Bottley is a Church of England priest in North Nottinghamshire. She shot to fame on Gogglebox and is a regular presenter on Songs of Praise. Kate has already appeared on Radio 2 in her role as a presenter on The Sunday Hour and as a contributor to Pause for Thought on The Chris Evans Breakfast show and on Saturday Breakfast with Dermot O’Leary.
Kate says: “I’m excited and honoured to be co-hosting the much loved GMS programme on BBC Radio 2. Aware I’ll be following in the footsteps of some of the very best broadcasters, with a fantastic co-presenter and brilliant team, I can’t wait to get started.”
Cardiff born and bred, Jason hosts Final Score on BBC One, BBC 5 Live’s 606 Phone-In, the weekday morning show on BBC Radio Wales and was a part of the BBC’s presenting team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Jason is a proud Welshman and Muslim and in 2009, S4C followed Jason as he made his first Umrah, or pilgrimage, to Mecca. A fluent Welsh speaker, Jason has presented Children in Need, and made guest appearances on Doctor Who, playing the newsreader.
Jason says: “To be hosting Good Morning Sunday on BBC Radio 2 is a dream come true. As a longtime listener of the station, I am overjoyed to be co-hosting this new show with Kate. We are going to have so much fun waking up the nation on a Sunday morning with great guests, wonderful music and engaging conversation.”
Good Morning Sunday is produced by BBC Religion and Ethics and the programme will be broadcast from the BBC in Salford.
