Robin Galloway wants more radio made at home

Pure Radio presenter Robin Galloway is encouraging other radio groups to send their presenters home and listen to Government advice to work from home.

In a rant on Twitter, Robin says the argument that radio staff are frontline workers is a belittlement to real frontline workers, and that if he can work from home, everyone else can.

He said: “Nearly every radio station in Scotland is promoting the spread of coronavirus by encouraging their staff to attend studios.

“I’m here to tell you that radio from home in 2021 is 100% possible. Pure Radio Scotland has protected its staff during this lockdown as it did the last, with ALL presenters broadcasting all shows from home – if the new kids on the block can do it there’s no excuse for these established radio heavyweights not to.”

Pure Radio is owned by DC Thomson, which also owns Kingdom FM and Original 106.

Radio Forth, West Sound, Radio Borders, Moray Firth, Radio Clyde, Radio Tay and Northsound owner Bauer said their broadcast centres are COVID safe with strict protocols in place.

Bauer said: “We broadcast remotely where possible and practical as the health and safety of our presenters and staff is of paramount importance.

“There are a number of presenters – who have key workers status – who have access to our Covid-safe broadcast centres which has been agreed within the guidelines, and we have very strict protocols in place including temperature checks, social distancing, perspex screens and regular cleaning.

“Our radio stations broadcast the latest public health information for Scotland and continue to offer companionship and entertainment for our listeners during these difficult times.”

Nation Radio presenters are home based and a presenter from Central FM replied to say most of its presenters are working from home.

The owners of Heart, Capital and Smooth had no comment on the situation when contacted by RadioToday.
