BBC Radio Humberside’s David Burns has announced that he’s leaving the station.
After 12 years hosting the Burnsy Show, the morning presenter says he doesn’t know when his last programme will be, but he’s been told he’ll no longer be needed.
In a tweet earlier, Burnsy said: It’s all gone a bit Francis Albert and the final curtain is going to close on my time on The Burnsy Show @RadioHumberside.
“Lots of love to my producers and colleagues who face a very uncertain and unsettling time.”
His full statement continued: “The BBC has told me I won’t be needed a presenter.
“I’m eternally grateful to them for the opportunity, I’ve loved every minute, though the last few months have been unnecessarily painful.
“I think I made a difference, and I couldn’t have done it without you as an audience.
“Your contributions, your ideas, your passion for the area made it the multi-award-winning show it is.
“Ta for that.
“I don’t know when my final show is, I’ll keep you posted.”
"And now the end is near…"

BBC Head of Yorkshire, Katrina Bunker said: “Burnsy has been a much-loved voice on BBC Radio Humberside for more than 20 years, first for sport and his inimitable coverage and commentaries of Hull City FC.
“In more recent years he’s presented a much-loved weekday morning show – the Burnsy Show which has been all about leading a great local conversation. Burnsy loves where he lives and giving local people a voice.
“His fearless style means he’s held local authorities to account and deservedly won a number of awards for his broadcasting over the years. He’ll be missed greatly by listeners when he leaves us this summer – but I’m sure he won’t be a stranger.
“He may well be back in the future in our sports coverage. He’s a unique and special broadcaster and we wish him all the very best.”
