High Sheriff’s Award for Rutland and Stamford Sound’s Station Manager

Rob Persani, Station Manager at Rutland and Stamford Sound, has received an award from the High Sheriff of Rutland.

The High Sheriff’s Award recognises the work of individuals or organisations who have made outstanding contributions to the communities in which they live and work.

Rob was presenting his regular morning show from Uppingham Market Place when the High Sheriff arrived and surprised him with the award of his certificate.

The High Sheriff, Richard Cole, commented: “It was great to be able give Rob his award while he was presenting his show from Uppingham. He is a true community champion and is a real ambassador for the County.”

Richard also shared comments from those who nominated Rob, with people highlighting the contribution that he makes in terms of raising awareness of charities and good causes, as well as the huge amount of work that he puts in, as summarised by one nomination: “He is absolutely tireless, he is everywhere, there must be more than one of him.”

A few days later Rob took his morning show to Oakham Market Place to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the launch of the station. Rob was joined by station volunteers who handed out slices of birthday cake to passers-by.

Rob said: “It has been wonderful to see Rutland and Stamford Sound develop over the past four years, with listener numbers growing all the time and more and more people telling us how much they value the station as a source of local information.

“Whilst it was a lovely surprise to receive the award from the High Sheriff, the continued success of the station is very much down to all the people who volunteer with Rutland and Stamford Sound.

“As well as the volunteer presenters who are well known to our listeners, we are lucky to have a dedicated group of supporters who give up their time to carry out a wide range of vital activities behind the scenes.”

Rutland and Stamford Sound has been on air since March 2021 and launched on DAB+ in May 2024.
