Tamsin Curnow is to be the new Editor of BBC Somerset.
She will move from BBC Radio Bristol where she is currently News Editor.
Tamsin is originally from West Cornwall and started her career on the Falmouth Packet as an editorial assistant. She joined BBC Radio as a Broadcast Journalist in 2001, reporting, producing, presenting and reading bulletins, before moving to BBC Radio Kent then BBC Radio 5 Live where she worked on the Breakfast programme and as a newsreader. She joined BBC Radio Bristol in November 2010.
Commenting on her appointment, Tamsin said: “I’m very proud to be joining the team at BBC Somerset. As a West Country girl, I already know what a fantastic part of the world it is – and as a keen cricket fan I can’t wait to be a regular at the County Ground! I started my BBC career in Local Radio and feel really passionate about the close relationship which stations have with their audience – and this is particularly true of BBC Somerset, which has its listeners at the heart of everything it does.
“I’m looking forward to building on the success the team have had covering big news stories and local issues – something which was clearly recognised when it was nominated for Station of the Year at the Sony Awards. I’m thrilled to be part of it, and really looking forward to starting as soon as possible.”
Welcoming Tamsin to her new role, Lucio Mesquita, Head of the BBC in the West, said: “Tamsin’s wealth of experience in local and national journalism and passion for radio make her an ideal choice for this key role leading the team at BBC Somerset. I am delighted to have her on board and am looking forward to working with her.”
Tamsin takes over from Jess Rudkin, who recently left Somerset to take over as Editor of BBC Radio Northampton.
