Radio Merseyside song search

BBC Radio Merseyside have launched a competition to search for upcoming songwriters. Winners will play their song live on the station and win a guitar from a local music shop. It's part of the Claire Hamilton on Sunday show, which covers the local arts scene.

The regional competition to find the songwriting stars of the future is open to people of all ages and abilities. As well as getting to play their song live on Claire's programme, the winner will get to play a gig for family and friends in Radio Merseyside's performance space at its headquarters on College Lane, Liverpool.

Claire says: "Music is so important to Merseyside. We are spoilt for choice for live music venues and have produced some of Britain's best musicians. With Liverpool being the Capital of Culture in 2008, we thought now was a good time to give new talent a chance to shine."

The judging panel is made up of a panel of students from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), who came up with the idea.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 6 June – for more information visit the [link=http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool]BBC Liverpool[/link] website.
