An event aimed at professional broadcasters is being launched in Manchester, organised by presenter Ed Nell.
Work Beyond Radio claims to be the first event of its kind in the UK and aims to show radio presenters, producers and journalists how to enhance an existing career outside radio or create a new one.
Former Orion Media boss Phil Riley is supporting the event, along with Dave Vitty, Kam Kelly, Alex Junguis and more.
Ed Nell told RadioToday about the event: “At a time when our industry is getting even smaller, we need to broaden our horizons and realise the potential we have to do even more great things.
“People who work in radio have a wealth of talent, but it can be a struggle to identify how to use that talent once you step outside of the studio.
“Work Beyond Radio is a chance to hear from those already running profitable businesses, meet like-minded professionals and we hope to show you how taking a step into another industry can be more enjoyable than you think.”
Dave Vitty, aka Comedy Dave from BBC Radio 1 said: “Work Beyond Radio sounds like a really positive event for anyone in the industry right now”
Phil Riley added: “Professional broadcasters have a range of skills; communication, time management, the ability to engage with people, and entertain. All those skills are needed in other walks of life, so there can be a career beyond radio, and it’s great to see this event taking place to help people in our industry expand their horizons”
Alex Junguis of This is Distorted and Former PD of Capital Yorkshire said: “Work Beyond Radio comes at a time when the radio industry is going through huge changes, not only in embracing new technology but in how content is created and delivered. Beyond Radio is a chance to re-ignite your ideas, passion and drive for great content, network with people similar to yourself and get excited about the future of audio!”
Kam Kelly, Sam FM breakfast and former Capital FM presenter added: “Work Beyond Radio is exactly the sort of event the industry needs. I genuinely believe that working in this industry we all need some guidance as to how we can apply our skill set when the dream ends. And of course, it’s a great excuse to get together for a few beers!”
Work Beyond Radio will be held at The Castlefield Rooms, Manchester on Saturday 25th November. More details available here.
