Radio Aire starts Kids Trust

Emap's Radio Aire and Magic 828 in Leeds have launched a new charity to help children in crisis across West Yorkshire. The Kids Count Trust was celebrated with a launch bash at The Living Room in Leeds last night.

Alexis Thompson, Managing Director of 96.3 Radio Aire and Magic 828 — who is also a trustee of Kids Count — spoke to guests about their childhood seaside memories and how the charity can improve the quality of children’s lives across the region.

Alexis said “ All funds raised by Kids Count stay in West Yorkshire , we are hoping that businesses and individuals all over this region will support Kids Count to raise thousands of pounds to help our most vulnerable children."

The local community have already offered their support to Kids Count. Last month Leeds Rhinos Legend Barrie McDermott walked 100 miles around Leeds over five days for the charity, encouraging Leeds United players, Leeds Rhinos players and Emmerdale stars to join him after hearing about the charities on-air launch on 96.3 Radio Aire. Harratts Volvo have also donated a brand new car to be used for the charities fundraising campaigns.

A raffle held during the evening and drawn by the Simon Logan breakfast show raised over £600 which will go toward the holiday home, already £9000 has been raised. Last night's entertainment was provided by Glenn Pinder, Magic 828’s new breakfast show presenter.

Meanwhile Hallam FM's Flood Victim Support Appeal continues to help those who lost their homes and valuables in last months floods. They are organising a Floodstock Festival at the Leadmill on August 11th and 12th with every penny made from tickets contributed to the South Yorkshire Flood Victim Support Appeal. Bands are playing for free, leaflets are being produced for nothing and ticket outlets are giving up their booking fee costs for the cause.
