Radiotherapy for Whispering Bob

Bob Harris has started radiotherapy treatment for cancer of the prostate. The BBC Radio 2 presenter was diagnosed with cancer in February and has said this week how he finds the support of listeners and colleagues "very strengthening". His last show for now was on August 4th, but Bob hopes to be back in October.

Harris told the BBC he has a wonderful team, and that he has received lots of support from people who have been through it before. "Johnnie Walker was in touch straight away, and Jeff Griffin, who was my producer at Radio 1." he said.

Bob made his name in the 1970s hosting a late night show on BBC Radio 1, and the television programme The Old Grey Whistle Test. He also hosted shows on Radio Luxembourg, LBC, BBC Radio Oxford and GWR.

He announced that he is taking a few months break during his BBC Radio 2 show on July 28th. Steve Lemacq will cover his Saturday Night show in the meantime.
