Ofcom updates betting code

Ofcom has updated part of its Broadcasting Code to ensure the document is up-to-date with the new Gambling Act 2005 coming into force this week. Section Nine has been changed to make sure the code is in line with the new Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) rules for gambling advertisements on television and radio.

The code now allows for casinos, bookmakers and betting websites to advertise on radio for the first time. However, the gambling industry will still have to follow strict guidelines, adhering to a new code of practice, being drawn up by the Gambling Commission.

The new code can be found on the Ofcom website by clicking [link=http://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv/ifi/codes/bcode/sponsorship/]here[/link].
