Listeners to 96.4 FM The Wave and Swansea Sound helped raise £40k for charity over a fundraising weekend.
And during day one of the charity auction, one of the schools which benefits from the weekend was in need of extra help after a daytrip to Lapland was cancelled. The flight and 18 thousand pound trip was cancelled due to Air Traffic problems so they contacted The Wave breakfast shows Badger and Emma who were hosting the auction at the time.
“They said they wanted some selection boxes to give to the kids when they got home on Saturday night” said Emma. “We knew our listeners could do better than that and within minutes we had offers of a visit from Santa, a trip that night in a fire engine and the offer from Bluestone resort of a day out at their Elf school.”
“We’re eternally grateful” said Nikki Robertson who organised the trip and works at the school in Clase. “I can’t believe how generous and thoughtful everyone was. There were tears of joy when the kids got back to the school to meet Santa thanks to Neil at Sandcastle entertainment and we had a full blown party thanks to McDonalds in Morriston.”
Other fundraising included the sale of a Harley Davidson Motorbike worth £7450. The bike was donated by Swansea Harley Davidson and raised £6500 towards the £40,000 total.
Badger said “With the recession yet to take its full effect on the people of South Wales it’s so heart warming to know that people are still willing to help. We all had a lump in our throats when we were taking the calls of such amazing generosity towards the kids of Ysgol Pen y Bryn. It was brilliant, Thank you South Wales.”
