Radio goes live on Freesat

Almost 20 radio channels are now available on Freesat, the joint venture between the BBC and ITV. Today sees the launch of Capital 95.8, Xfm, Classic FM, Gold, NME Radio, Insight Radio and BFBS.

Ten BBC channels are already available, and bosses at the free satellite service are promising more to come over the next few months, including Virgin Radio.
NME Radio launched in June and are also planning to run temporary local FM services and DAB. The station is run by DX Media, and managing director Sammy Jacob told RadioToday.co.uk: "We’re committed to making NME Radio available on as many platforms as possible. We believe Freesat will become a significant platform, especially as the UK moves closer to total analogue switch-off."
