Troubled Merseyside station KCR 106.7 has been sold for the 4th time in as many years – after the previous reported sale failed to materialise.
The commercial station, which was originally part funded by Chrysalis, and later sold to TLRC then back to founder Ray Ferguson, is now owned by Southport family company Polaris Media.
Polaris Media has appointed Georgina Rycyk and owner of On The Count of Three Records, Graeme Rycyk as managing directors; having taken up their posts on 19th August to orchestrate handover from the previous owners KCR Media.
Commenting on the purchase Polaris Media said: “We are delighted to announce our recent acquisition of KCR FM 106.7. KCR has experienced a very turbulent and unsettling year so far and has managed to ride out multiple unsuccessful purchase propositions. We have every faith that our new management team can provide excellent quality local radio and boost the profile of the station on Merseyside; something which has proved challenging in the past.
We have inherited a versatile and talented team and we have every intention to aid them in gaining the status we feel is deserved for the station.”
Former Chairman Ray Ferguson remains at the station in a consultancy capacity. Afternoon presenter Jon Jessop announced he bought the station in July and was going to re-launch KCR as The Edge. Previously it was sold to TLRC then back to founder Ray Ferguson.
It has been the week for sales, as on Tuesday we revealed that Star Cheltenham has been sold to Brett Orchard, and only yesterday we broke the news that Steve Penk has bought The Revolution.
