Kids Live at 5, the weekly kids show on Cheshire’s Mix 56, has a new host Melita, who at the age of 10 years old, is the youngest presenter on the station.
Elizabeth Nelson, now aged 17, has presented the show for the last five years, since the age of 12.
The show started in April 2020, to give local children a focus when the country was in lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Elizabeth said: “Being involved in Kids live at 5 has been so rewarding. During my time as a presenter we have covered many important topics, such as Children’s Mental Health week, British Science week and World Book Day.
“We also created shows celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee, and later the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, the Coronation of Charles III. I also loved our annual nativity and panto shows.
“We have been nominated for an ARIA in the Grassroots category and the team have featured twice on Granada Reports.
“Sadly though, it is now time for me to take a step down to concentrate on my A level studies, and I cannot wait to hear Melita in the presenter role, I know she will be fabulous.”
The show has been written by Elizabeth’s mum, Helen for the last five years, she said: “I am so proud of the show and all the children who take part weekly. We have created a safe space for children to be involved in radio, to increase their self-confidence and to grow.
“It has been so rewarding to see the growth of the children and the joy that being involves brings to them, their families and those who listen.”
New presenter Melita has been involved in the show over the last couple of years and has taken part recording content covering the different weekly themes and has hosted interviews.
Melita says: “I am so excited to be the new presenter of Kids Live at 5. I love being involved in the show – it‘s so much fun and my friends love to tune in.
“I am really looking forward to taking on the presenter role and writing the show along with my mum Mika.”
Station Director Paul Smith comments: “Each week the Kids team research, write and produce a fantastic hour-long show.
“I am really proud of how the show has evolved over the last five years with Elizabeth and Helen and I’m excited to welcome Melita as our new host with help from mum Mika.
“I’m keen to continue dedicating an hour of our output every week for the children of Cheshire to enjoy and participate in.”
Elizabeth’s last show will air on Sunday 20th April, and Melita’s first show will air on Sunday 27th April 2025.
