Global Player goes native in BMW Group car brands
Drivers can now access Global Player directly through built-in car systems without connecting a smartphone.
Global has confirmed its Global Player app is now available within infotainment systems across a range of major automotive brands, marking the first time the platform can run natively in compatible vehicles.
The move builds on earlier integration with BMW and MINI and extends availability via Android Automotive, a system embedded within a vehicle’s display.
The free app is available in selected models from BMW, MINI, Volvo, Polestar, Renault and Nissan, with further launches planned.
Stephen Toombs, Head of In-Car Distribution for Global Player at Global, said: “We know how important it is to our listeners to have easy access to their favourite radio brands and podcasts, so we’re thrilled to bring Global Player directly into cars and onto their dashboards.
“Among other things, the in-car app functionality allows people to carry on exactly where they left off when they were listening elsewhere, without the need of a smartphone and dataplan.”
Global Player provides access to Heart, Capital, Smooth, Classic FM, LBC, Radio X and Gold Radio, alongside podcasts and playlists, with content controlled via touchscreen or voice assistant.
Radioplayer also entered into an agreement with the BMW Group in 2021 for the group to use Meta data across its dashboards and use Hybrid radio technology.
