Liza Tarbuck steps down from BBC Radio 2 show

Liza Tarbuck is stepping down from her Saturday evening programme on BBC Radio 2 after more than a decade in the slot.

Liza has hosted the 6pm to 8pm show since 2012 but has decided to leave the programme to reclaim her weekends.

Announcing the decision on Instagram, Liza reflected on the community built around the show and thanked listeners who had tuned in each week.

Liza said: “We made 2 hrs of radio feel like a private members club, that’s the stuff of dreams. Thousands of people enjoyed each other’s company like great friends… Thank you for letting me in, it’s been a privilege.”

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, praised Liza’s contribution to the station and the atmosphere she created on Saturday evenings.

Helen said: “Every Saturday evening, Liza created a truly magical, fantastical world. She was beloved by everyone at the station and all her listeners.”

Liza’s BBC Radio 2 journey started in 2007 when she co-hosted afternoons with Mark Radcliffe whilst Steve Wright was on leave, and went on to cover the show on her own. She spent the next few years coverings shows and hosting specials before getting her own weekly show.

Shaun Keaveny will present the Saturday night programme in the short term, taking over the slot until the end of March while longer term plans are decided.

Further details about who will take on the Saturday evening show permanently will be announced at a later date.
