Blackburn leaves Smooth Radio

Tony Blackburn will leave Smooth Radio once he takes up his new regular weekly programme on BBC Radio 2, RadioToday.co.uk can reveal.

The BBC has instructed Tony to part company with GMG Radio in order to present Pick of the Pops each weekend.

Tony has hosted the weekend breakfast show on Smooth Radio for almost three years, and news of his departure comes as the station officially goes national on DAB from October 4th.

A spokesperson for GMG Radio told RadioToday.co.uk: "We would have liked Tony to remain on Smooth Radio’s weekend breakfast shows but BBC Radio 2 stipulated that he would not be allowed to work for us however, we wish him well for the future and I’m sure he’ll sound sensational on Pick of the Pops".

Tony also presents programmes on KMFM and KCFM, plus a syndicated soul show, but these are unaffected by his [link=https://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.6304]move[/link] to Radio 2.
