Elton swears on BBC again

Elton John's done it again – said the F-word while appearing on a live BBC network breakfast show.

It happened just before 9 o'clock this morning, while he was guesting on Radio 2's Chris Evans show as co-host for the day.

After Chris told him Jools Holland was unable to start the day without playing his piano, Elton replied, "Oh f**king hell", sparking a string of comments on Twitter and the Radio 2 live iPlayer console.

Comments included: "Elton John – what a superstar! what a slip-up. forgiven already – to err is human"; "That was the funniest F word since the Today show debacle over Jeremy Hunt, Culture Secretary!"; "Thanks for that swear word Elton – very clever – my 8 year old was shocked just before leaving for school – very CLEVER"; and "Elton we'll forgive you anything, your music makes everything alright xx"

Radio 2 Producer, Peta, told listeners on the online console: "I apologise for the slip there. Very sorry everyone."

Apologising just after the 9am news, Elton said: "Well I'm just really really sorry I said that naughty word. I just can't believe anyone would want to get up that early and play the piano." Chris then played Elton's hit 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word."

Later a BBC spokeswoman said: "Both Sir Elton and Chris apologised many times on this morning's live Chris Evans Breakfast Show for the language used by Sir Elton. The BBC apologises if any offence was caused."

It's not the first time Elton's created a furore by swearing on breakfast radio – in November 2004 he used the F-word on the Chris Moyles Show on Radio 1, before going on to list several swear words and asking whether they were acceptable to use on the radio. The BBC was later [link=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4266673.stm]cleared by Ofcom[/link], who said the outburst was 'light-hearted and mischievous'.
