BBC simulcast for Hospital Radio Ipswich

BBC Radio Suffolk presenters Mark Murphy and Stephen Foster are heading back to their roots to broadcast on Hospital Radio Ipswich.

The duo will be part of a special day of programmes next month as the station marks 40 years on air by making output available online for the first time.

From Saturday 9th July, the station is starting streaming via its website in addition to being available on bedside systems at the town’s Heath Road Hospital.

The day will be marked with a 18-hour live broadcast from 6am to midnight – including a simulcast with the BBC local radio station at 9am for a show presented by Radio Suffolk’s breakfast host Mark Murphy and HRI’s Tim Ward. At lunchtime Radio Suffolk drivetime presenter Stephen Foster – who like Mark Murphy started his broadcasting career at HRI – will return to the station to present a live programme. Mark Murphy will then join the hospital broadcasters in the afternoon to present a programme from HRI’s studios.

An HRI spokesman told RadioToday.co.uk: “Broadcasting via the internet will allow people to take the station home with them when they leave hospital. We regularly play requests for patients who ask if their family can hear it as well, now they can. We are pleased to welcome home Mark and Foz.”
