John Pickford becomes Bauer’s news chief

Bauer Media has made a number of changes to its news operation this week, including the appointment of John Pickford as News Editor-in-Chief.

This newly created role will see him oversee news strategy and delivery across the Place Portfolio, while also working closely with national radio teams, reporting to Owen Ryan, Group Content Director, Bauer Place – North of England & Scotland.

John is currently News Editor at Key 103 and recently won a lifetime achievement award at the Arqivas (2012) and was named one of the 40 in RadioCentre’s Roll of Honour.

Also, Lorraine Herbison has been appointed to the position of Head of News and Sport for Scotland in addition to her current role at Radio Clyde, reporting to Pickford.

A new Head of News and Sport for England role will commence shortly.

Owen Ryan commented: “We are continually reviewing how news is brought to listeners in the best way possible and these key appointments ensure our stations across the Place Portfolio continue to deliver best-in-class news and sport multi-platform content.

“Consumer demand for news information delivered across the multi-platforms of FM, DAB, online and mobile is growing rapidly. News will continue to play a pivotal role in our quest to deliver excellent content and deepen audience relationships, allowing the stations to connect, entertain and inform.”
